.) How long has the contractor been in the residential roofing business? Look for well established companies that have the staying power to be around year after year.
.) Has the contractor done work like this before? Even if your job seems routine, be sure that the contractor has a good reputation and is experienced in the type of work you need.
.) Does the contractor provide a written warranty on his work? You should insist on getting at least a twenty year written warranty on the contractor's workmanship.
.) Does the contractor install roofing shingles that carry a product and labor warranty? We offer CertainTeed's Sure Start Plus warranty coverage of up to 50 years (non prorated), for material, labor, removal and disposal of any defective shingles. It is by far the best warranty in the industry.
.) Can the contractor give you a schedule for starting and finishing the job? A good contractor will be busy, but he should be able to complete your job in reasonable amount of time.
.) Does the contractor offer a line of quality shingles that have a wide selection of styles and colors to complement your home?
.) Does the contractor provide a clear, written estimate? Don't accept an incomplete or casual representation of work to be done. Make sure all procedures and materials are spelled out.
.) Can the contractor provide references from satisfied customers? Ask for names of people who've hired this contractor to do similar work on their homes.
.) Does the company meet all state and local requirements for roofing contractors?
.) Is the contractor insured? Your contractor should have insurance coverage to cover accidents or injuries on the job.
